Intraday 1 Minute data: Free Download

Good news for all Intraday traders who want to backtest their system on Historical data. Below is the download link for Intraday 1 Minute data for Nifty and Banknifty spot. Date range is from Jan 2008 till today. We’ll update it at the start of every month

If you want to download data only for the recent month click here.

The zip file contains year wise data files for Nifty and Banknifty. Also, it contains a consolidated folder which contains all the data files. You can simply select all the files from the consolidated folder and import it to your favorite backtesting platform.

If you are looking for intraday 1 minute data for stocks and futures, updated on a daily basis, click on this link.

Note: Due to the strict regulations put by the authorities on distributing and selling data related to financial markets, we have paused the updates to this data. The historical data is still available for your backtesting but unfortunately, you’ll not see the day-to-day updates as before. Apologies for the inconvenience, we will resume this service once we get more clarity on the imposed regulations

How to import Intraday 1 Minute data into Amibroker

Step 1: Open Amibroker and go to File–>New–>Database. In the database settings screen, enter values as given in the below screenshot.

Step 2: Click on ‘Intraday Settings ‘ and input values as per given screesnhot:

Step 3: Click on OK. It will create a new database for your intraday data. Now click on File–>Import Wizard. The following screen willl open. Click on ‘Pick Files’ and select one or more files from the data you downloaded.

Step 4: In the next screen, enter the values exactly similar to the below screenshot:

Step 5: In the next screen, enter your Format description and Format file name. Then click on Finish. This wil import data from all the files you selected.

Additional Settings

Step 6: Now, to import the entire data set, go to File–>Import Ascii. Select all your data files in the next screen and click on Open. Depending on the volume of data and speed of your computer it may take 5 minutes to 1 hour.

    A very informative site. I have downloaded the Intraday Data yesterday. Its upto 29-Jun-2016. Thanks for the data. I wish, I would get more IEOD data from you 😉 It will help me to prepare for intraday trading.

    If yes then please let me know about the frequency of uploads. Another thing which would help me and others who download data from you. Please put the new data in another folder so that one need not download repeated data.

    I am asking for more, but I remember the TATA SKY ad…. “Puch dala to life zingalala….. ” 🙂

      Thanks for your kind words! Intraday data is updated every month, so you will find July month’s data on August 1st. And yes, we’ll try to put the latest data in new folder from the next time.

    Pl provide latest data also because analysis are done for the future based on the previous data. If the is not updated on daily basis the analysis will get distorted. The real utility of intraday data is done for the next date of trading.
    I hope this point will be useful to consider for updating data on daily basis like a Bhavcopy.

    There are diff types of folders like
    Year wise & consolidated

    Shall we import all folders ?

    Or shall we import only consolidated ? or Only yer wise ?

    Can we have another codes back fill if you can ?

      Thank you! For the first time, you should import only consolidated folder. Then every month, you may just import the respective months folder. If you have the trial version of Ami you have to import consolidated folder each time you open Amibroker as the data doesn’t save. Hope I was clear.

        I found after importing data …Bank nifty 2015 data – consolidated has some closing errors in 2015 data where in close for 2/3 months shows 1613 odd…

        it spoils the chart also and than i imported month wise also ….

        Its giving same error in bank nifty…

  26. How do you backtest contract wise data on Amibroker, in the absence of continuous data

    • Hi Mithoon,

      I assume you are talking about future contracts which is not continuous. We can definitely backtest it like any other instruments but there would be rollover costs during expiry. Or you can code your strategy such that it squares off all open positions on Expiry Day

      Right now we do not have historical data for all individual stocks. But we are working to source it.

  29. Hi, where can I find the data for May 2017? Also, can you give us a choice of downloading the entire zip, or just for the previous 2-3 months. Because, for those of us who have already downloaded the large zip file, we only need to download two small files at the end of each month. Thanks.

  32. This is to bring to your kind attention that BNF data for 30032015 from 9:56 till 15:30 and BNF data for 24062015 from 9:19 till 1530 is absurd abnormaly low. Please rectify it

  38. Hi Admin, after updating the dataset in Amibroker, I see only green bars/candles that too on a daily basis- 1 min and other time frames are not showing any bars/candles. Do you mind helping out here?

      We get tons of requests each day and its difficult to prioritize a single request out of order. We understand your concern and it would be addressed soon. Til then, why don’t you do some manual work from your end. Sincere apologies for the delay.

    Do you know where can I get hourly data. Actually I want to back test some strategy on hourly data and hence copy paste it in excel then apply macro. (day hour high open close low). Or even like the data you given here. But need hourly data only.

      There are excel tools available over internet which can convert 1 minute data into hourly

      Unfortunately sourcing accurate intraday data for options is a difficult task. We will try our best though.

      We upload on a monthly basis. You would be able to download August data on Sept 1st week.

    Google has probably discontinued its Intraday 1min data API since Aug 1 2018. Are you able to scrape data from Google Finance for Aug 2018 ?

      Yes, you are correct. Most of our realtime excel sheets are effected due to this.

      Open the “txt” file with Microsoft Excel and use “Text to Columns” options to parse the data using comma delimiter. Let me know if you need any help

      No, it’s not necessary to have a dropbox account. You can download the files as a guest user

    One question though, i had imported ieod data successfully till Dec 2019 and saved the import format. Now when I am trying update the data through ASCII of the same script with the same import format, it is neither updating the data nor showing any alert msg / failure msg. can you please guide me about how to update the data of the old (already imported) script?

    i need candle wise live data in excel. i already downloaded live updating excel file but it is showing run time error 1004 regarding visual basic. it is showing unable to open get price file from google/finance

    However the data on daily basis is ok for banknifty FUTURES . But on minute basis it shows wrong figure with respect to terminal data. Is there any way to rectify it as the discrepancy is too large,which gives entirely wrong backtesting result . Thanks in anyway you may help.

    In the dropbox, there is data for every different months. For example there is data for Nifty August 2020 and then there is directly data for Nifty December 2020. So, how do I go about the data for months between August 2020 and December 2020? Also, can I import the data to Excel as I do not have any other platforms. I do not need the data for backtesting but for different purpose.

      Can you please check again. The folder contains data for all the months, its not sorted in order though. And yes, you can import the data to Excel sheet as well

      I don’t think it’s possible to provide intraday data for such a long period.

          Unfortunately it is, only licensed data vendors are supposed to share data. And the license costs an hefty amount
